Art's Birthday

Rita Bard & Kathryn M Davis

On January 17th, 2016, Santa Fe will celebrate—for the first time!—Art’s Birthday. It all began in France in 1963, when Fluxus artist Robert Filliou declared that Art had been born one million years ago when a sponge was dropped into a bucket of water. (January 17 was Filliou’s birthday, too.) Now, Art’s Birthday Santa Fe is joining artists from around the world in the celebration of Art’s one million and fifty-third birthday.

Join us at the Axle Contemporary van in front of (or inside, depending upon the chill factor) the New Mexico Museum of Art off the Plaza. We’ll be celebrating with free birthday cake baked by members of our arts community from noon to 4pm. There will also be an open mic, readings by artists, performances, and lots of shenanigans; bring the whole family!

Be sure to visit us on Facebook at Art’s Birthday Santa Fe for pix!  And the international Art's Birthday site is here.
