Bea Varnedoe Verrillo
Untitled (Subfields)

Feb. 19 - March 13, 2016

In this installation Bea Varnedoe Verrillo explores the relationship between built structures and restricted spaces. Her resolute grid of wooden beams fills the entire Axle mobile gallery and mimics the frame construction of the space, accompanied by a felt mat that replicates the truck’s interior floorplan.  Verrillo is interested in readymade, anonymous materials and pursues ongoing artistic inquiry into created space. Her framed grid construction bars entry to visitors, but allows visual investigation of the gallery. Identified by the space that encloses it, the artwork uses basic consumer construction options to create its vernacular structure. The immediate and complete dismantling of the exhibition at its close represents an equally important component of the piece, necessarily contained both by physical space and duration.
