The Free Exercise Thereof
internet art in a time of upheaval and activism

scroll through all the posts below or see the show projected live at UNM Art Museum at the PhotoSummer Celebration/Party on June 17, 4-7pm.

Extreme commotion and volatility has dominated our collective consciousness since November 8th of last year, and especially since January 20th of this year.  People across the country and around the world are activated to speak out to a degree we haven’t seen since the Vietnam War.  Art and activism are spreading fast through the internet, and particularly social media platforms such as Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram. People are motivated to stand up and be counted with online images, videos, and websites that are straddling the borders between activism, art, and humor. This is an online exhibition of new works that use the far reach of the internet to comment on or influence our current state of national affairs.
