Brian Fleetwood

Propagation

April 7-30, 2017

Propagation is an interactive installation using textiles, plastics, and wood. Forms are abstracted from diverse biological structures and create a diverse “ecosystem” on the interior of the mobile gallery space. The structures that make up the piece will house “spores”- small pins or clips in a number of different designs - for people who enter the exhibition space to place on their body and take with them when they leave. In this way the installation expands to include wherever the people who visit take these “spores”.

Brian Fleetwood is a New Mexico based multidisciplinary artist working with a diverse set of materials and methods. Utilizing textiles, metals, wood, plastic, paper, and more, Brian creates wearables and installation that mimic the physical structures of plants, animals, and other life and draw connections between the way ideas and living things move through the world, mutate, and multiply. Conceived of as a single ongoing piece, this body of work is intended to grow and spread until it’s components occupy as many spaces and bodies as possible.
