Ephemerality is an aesthetic that is perfectly expressed in ice. Ice is a tentative, transitory material. Ice disappears. In this installation, I have juxtaposed this natural material and a human-made material (a common plastic water bottle). I am looking at the interplay between the human-made environment and the natural environment. I have set into motion a process (melting) that will unfold gradually over time. None of us will see the see the whole process. I, the presumed artist, hereby abdicate control. The weather is the artist; forces and laws of which I have little concrete understanding are the artists. Each weekend, I will place new and different materials on these storage shelves and set in motion yet another cycle of transformation.
