The installation We the Extranimals shares the story of Susan Begy’s extraordinary encounter and her response to it. In 2009, Begy, while walking her dog near Santa Fe stumbled upon a spacecraft from the planet Norian.  A brief conversation and two short videos offered Begy a glimpse of the future. The craft had travelled through a wormhole in the year 2346, was thrown off course, and landed in the desert near Begy’s home. Aboard the craft was Anicca Holt, a psychobiologist, who had visited Norian to study and observe the second generation of a human hybrid species called huchumans—humans crossbred with chugaimans. Chugaimans are one of three intelligent species on planet Norian. Holt shared with Begy video footage of a huchuman and a mysterious matter known as Biological Omnicurious Bits (BOB) that the chugaimans, and now huchumans, exchange with one another to maintain their collective and individual psychosocial and physical well being.
